Nikko LOVES to be outside. I brought him outside to brush him with the furminator and to play. We played fetch for a while but then he decided to dig in my garden. He’s love a sand box lol

30 Day Shred

My husband and I decided we wanted to work out but going to the gym just does not fit into our busy schedules. I’m more of a work-out-at-home kind of a person. So we decided to do Jillian Michael’s 30 day shred video. The video is only 27 minutes long. 20 minutes of which is actual work out so not bad at all. But since it’s only 20 minutes you do the work out every day. It’s circuit training so we work multiple muscles at the same time rather then individually. Pack more into less time. So far we are both enjoying it. We are on day 5 today and so far I have seen an improvement in Jon as far as muscle tone. Not so much for me yet. grrrr but it’s only been 5 days so we’ll see what 30 days brings.

Working out so far has helped a lot. I get up earlier so I have time to do more stuff around the house prior to work. But mostly it has been helping me get out some of my frustration. So far I really enjoy it and wish I had started a work out at home video years ago.

Nikko has gotten used to the fact that I work out every morning and think’s it’s play time. This morning he was pawing at my weights. (he paws at his food dish when he’s hungry) He pawed at the weights and just looked at me. He also loves to try to play with me when I’m working out. This morning when I was doing push ups he crawled under me and laid on his back and just looked up at me. And when I do crunches he likes to lick my face. Silly puppy. I have a picture that I need to post of him in my face.

2011 Easter egg hunt

Every year Jon and Beth host an easter breakfast followed by an easter egg hunt for my nephews. This year our easter egg hunt was greeted by snow…yes you read that right snow. The kids still got to hunt for eggs but it was inside instead of outside.

The gathering started with us chowing down on all sorts of scrumptious breakfast foods. We ate and talked for a bit then Beth and I went to hide the eggs for the boys.

I did manage to snap some pictures of the boys hunting for eggs but some how the “shake” feature got turned off so pretty much every picture came out blurry.

Trip to the mall

Took a quick trip to the mall yesterday with my mother in law, sister in law and nephews. The kids had a blast in the kid’s area in the mall as well as riding on the electronic rides. I forgot my camera so I had to take pictures with my iPhone 4. iPhone and moving kids = not such great pictures but I got 2 cute video’s!

2010 in review

2010 was full of ups and down…but alas it’s like that for everyone. By far the worst part of this year was adopting a baby boy and having the birth mom take him back after 2 weeks. As devastating as it was Jon and I realized how well we work together as a team and how quickly we adjusted to being parents. It’s amazing how easy it was to completely change our life to revolve around a child. While I don’t ever want to go through that again it has given us a little taste of parent hood and we will be prepared if and when we become parents.

On a better note we were very blessed to be able to live on Jon’s income when I was laid off this year. Jon has been very blessed in his career and his advancements allow us to live off of one income which is a huge blessing in today’s economy. I’m grateful, however to be back at work again. As much as I enjoyed staying home it felt a bit pointless with out children. So far I’m enjoying my job. One thing being laid off has taught me is to appreciate work a bit more then I did before.

Jon and I had all kinds of laughs with our D&D group this year. We started playing on Mondays with this group back in 2009. We all welcomed 2010 together playing board games and has now become a tradition (if I may say so) as we welcomed 2011 together! Here is some pictures of our group playing BANG on New Years eve. We laugh like 7 year old children when we play that game. Good times!

Anniversary

My brother in law and his wife celebrated their 6th anniversary yesterday so I baby sat my nephews so they could go out to eat. We watched a few episodes of Dora the Explorer then went up stairs to play with Owen’s train set. Bed time for the boys is 8 so I started attempting to get Owen ready at 7. Knowing full well that a 3 1/2 year old was NOT going to go to bed easy. Playing is way to much fun. Owen was very particular about his bed time routing. Toys needed to be picked up, put in the right bins and put the bins in the right places. He let me know when I put something in the wrong place lol. Then potty then brushing of teeth. At which he advised me the proper way to brush LOL. Up, down, side to side. To cute. Then upstairs to read them a story. We read a few stories then sang a song. However apparently the lights are supposed to be off before we sing so I sang the song twice. I told him I didn’t know his special song so he had me sing him the alphabet.

Wesley is 16 month’s now and all over the place. He kept crawling over to the other side of the room near the fire place and the door asking where his dad was.

Jon and I went down to Connecticut to visit his dads side of the family on 12/18. We ended up leaving later then we expected to so we didn’t get to visit for a long as we usually do but it was nice seeing everyone. The party began at his Uncle Steves house and moved to the nursing home that his grandfather is staying. Here are a few pictures. I didn’t get many because we were pretty much sitting around eating and talking which would make awkward photo’s.

After we were done visiting Steve brought us to see his model trains. Him and a group of other guys put this together on their own time and open it up to the public. My nephew Owen would have really liked this! It was amazing. There were buttons you could press to make the stations do stuff. One that you pressed made the mechanic work on the car and it sparked.

My in law’s Christmas tree

Every year for Christmas Jon and I get together with his immediate family on Christmas eve for Chinese, games and opening of gifts. We decided a few years ago it was easier (and less expensive) to have the adults (anyone 18 and over) pick names and buy a gift for their person. (as well as buy for kids under 18).

This year we had a blast. Our nephews are both old enough to fully enjoy opening gifts. Owen wanted to be right there to watch every one open their gifts and really liked the train shirt from Grammy and Grampy. (I think it was from them)

Wesley loved opening gifts and seemed to really love all the clothes. At one point he picked up all the clothes, walked into the middle of the room and dumped them on the floor to play with them.

My husband loves to try to guess what the gift is before he opens it and he guesses right almost all the time. He’s not allowed to touch the gifts till Christmas! Here is Jon opening his gift from his sister Ann.

Jon got me an iphone 4 for Christmas so we gave Bethany my old one and put it in an iphone 4 box.

My sister in law Beth got my father in law his gift. Looks like he got a really nice pair of gloves as well as something for his computer that needs to be installed.

Bethany got my mother in law. She got Debbie and Ron each a new pillow as well as their own matching towels. The towels they have now are all random old towels. These looked nice and squishy!!

Ok so I tried to get a video of them playing with the wrapping paper but apparently I thought I hit record but I didn’t…so when everyone was done I actually did hit record and realized it a minute later. Ok so that was Christmas eve. Christmas day we went to my moms house. It’s a 2 hour drive each way so we left around 9:30 and got there around 11:30

We opened gifts, ate, and talked. It was really nice to see my mom and grandmother again. I don’t get up there to see them often enough. While we all talked in the kitchen here is what Jon was doing:

lol. He didn’t sleep the whole time, just took a nap but I couldn’t help but snap a picture. I can’t complain though cause he drives both ways so that was 2 hours in the car today.

After we left my moms house we went to his parents again. Christmas day is when they have Debbie’s family come over. We always get there at the tail end but it’s just long enough to see presents be open and chat with people before they head home.

I have no idea why the coloring came out the way it did. The battery in my camera died so 99% of these were taken with my iphone…ok so pretty much all the pictures you see here accept the group picture of my family was taken with my iphone

This is Chris and Judi. They are really good friends of ours so Jon’s family have kind of adopted them

Ok well this blog post has taken me at least an hour so I’m going to post more Christmas stuff later. I haven’t even touched upon our trip to see my father in law’s side of the family. We went down to visit them last weekend. And I have pictures of our tree and decorations that I’m going to post too.

My side of the family had a small Thanksgiving/Christmas gathering this year. It was so nice to see everyone! I hadn’t seen my cousine’s children in a very very long time. It was nice to see them again. It reminded me of what my cousines and I were like at that age. Ah to go back in time just for a bit….

The gathering was at my aunts house. We ate and talked and watched the kids play. Here are some photo’s that I took.

Sewing

I’m really starting to enjoy sewing. It started with me wanting to cloth diaper. I bought some prefolds when my husband and I were expecting through adoption but I knew after 3-6 month’s I’d want to start using AIO’s or pockets. So I bought the Jalie Pattern and started sewing.

and this is when you turn the diaper inside out. This makes drying easier

After sewing a few of those I decided I wanted to try making some AIO OS (all in one, one size) so using the sprout snap pattern I made these:

I also decided I wanted to use cloth wipes too. These are super easy to make. They would be even easier if I could get my serger to work!

I’ve recently started using the fatty cakes pattern: very easy to use once I got a picture tutorial.

I have to get more material in order to keep making diapers so in the mean time I decided to try making pillow case dresses. They aren’t actually made out of pillow cases any more but they easily could be..

This one was made out of an old skirt I had:

this one I made from some left over material that I had. This one is my favorite!

I have also made some fleece covers recently. They are really easy and fun to make: They are used as a water proof cover. YOu can put them over prefolds or fitted diapers.

I didn’t get to sew today. It just didn’t work out. I tried but first my serger stopped serging. Then I spilled all my needles on the floor. Then when I started sewing more fleece covers I couldn’t get them sewn right. After that my bobbin ran out of thread so I called it quits. I did manage to finish sewing one but I probably won’t be able to sew again till next week. I start working full time next week so I will do the majority of my sewing on the weekend.
